Overview


There are two different approaches for interfacing and collecting data from OptiTrack camera system onto MotionMonitor. Each method is appropriate for different types of research, clinical or sports applications. These methods include C3D file export and real-time data streaming. For each version of The MotionMonitor, the menu items and layouts may vary slightly but the general workflows are similar.

Exporting C3D file from Motive

  1. Record or import Take(s) that contains 3D reconstructed data.
  2. Select the Take(s) in the Data pane, and then right-click on the TAKs to export the tracking data. This will bring up an export dialog window.
  3. On the export dialog window, use the Files of type dropdown menu to select C3D Format
  4. Configure the export settings. See Data Export: C3D.
  5. Under the Axis Convention, select the desired axis convention. Selecting MontionMonitor on the drop down will automatically set the upward axis to be the z-axis. Note this axis convention can again be modified, if needed, from the MMToolbox right after importing the C3D file.
  6. Navigate to the desired output directory, and click Save .

Importing C3D files onto MMToolbox

Importing C3D files
  1. Open or create a workspace in MMToolbox.
  2. Click on the C3D icon to import the exported C3D file.
  3. Find and import the C3D file that we outputted from Motive.
  4. Once the C3D files are imported, you will see the point clouds from the C3D file imported onto MMToolbox.
  5. If needed, select You can configure the World Axes on the Components pane, and set the desired axes convention at the bottom.
  6. Now that the C3D files have been imported, you can define the bones and input the necessary parameters. Please refer to The MotionMonitor documentation for more details on the workflow.

Real-time Biomechanical Modeling


Live data from OptiTrack system can also be streamed into The MotionBuilder software. From the streamed data, The MotionBuilder can build a biomechanical model, record, and analyze the skeleton tracking in real-time. Please refer to The MotionMonitor documentation for instructions on setting up real-time streaming.
